Rent increase calculator

Apply a percent increase to the rent you pay now and show the new rent and the extra dollars.

The answer

New rent = current rent × (1 + percent ÷ 100). The increase is the difference. Over a year, that difference is multiplied by 12.

Result

$2,100.00

New rent

Increase
$100.00
Extra over 12 months
$1,200.00

How this works

Multiply the current rent by the percent and divide by 100. Add that to the rent. $2,000 at 5% becomes $2,100. The increase is $100 a month, which is $1,200 over twelve payments.

A notice that names a new dollar rent does not need this page: subtract the old rent from the new one. A local limit on how large a percent may be is the rule in that place, and this page does not look it up.

Examples

  • $2,000 rent and a 5% increase

New rent is $2,100. The increase is $100 a month, $1,200 over a year.

Common mistakes

  • ×

    Adding the percent as dollars.

  • ×

Forgetting that twelve payments of the increase are the yearly cost.
