Prorated rent

Price a partial month of rent from the monthly rent, the days you occupy, and the days in that month.

The answer

Prorated rent = monthly rent × days occupied ÷ days in the month. The daily rate is the monthly rent divided by the days in that month.

Result

$600.00

Prorated rent

Rent per day
$60.00

How this works

Divide the monthly rent by the number of days in the month, then multiply by the days you occupy. $1,800 in a 30-day month, for 10 days, is $600. The same 10 days in a 31-day month is a smaller share.

Some leases divide by 30 even in a 31-day month. Use the divisor the lease names. This page uses the day count you enter.

Examples

  • $1,800 rent, 10 days, 30-day month

The daily rate is $60. Prorated rent is $600.

Common mistakes

  • ×

Using 30 days for February without checking the lease.

  • ×

Counting both the move-in day and the move-out day when the lease counts only one of them.
