Random picker

Pick one or more lines from a list you paste. The same seed picks the same lines.

The answer

Each non-empty line is a choice. The seed orders the list and the page returns the first choices in that order, without picking the same line twice.

Result

Pick

Linus

What do you want to do next?

How this works

Blank lines are ignored. The seed assigns each remaining line a rank and the lines are ordered by that rank. Asking for three picks returns the first three in that order.

A line cannot be picked twice in one draw. If you ask for more picks than there are lines, the page stops and asks you to lower the count. The seed is visible in the address.

Practical steps

  1. 1

    Paste one choice per line.

  2. 2

Set how many choices you need.

  3. 3

Share the page if the same pick should be visible to someone else.

Examples

  • Ada, Grace, and Linus, pick 1

One of those three names, repeated whenever the seed stays the same.

Common mistakes

  • ×

Leaving blank lines and headings in the list and then treating a heading as a real choice. Delete those lines first.

Frequently asked questions

Can the same line be picked twice?

Not in one draw. Lower the list to one copy of each choice if duplicates were pasted.

Does the order of the paste matter?

Only as a tiebreaker. The seed supplies the order used for the pick.
