Number base converter

Convert an integer between bases 2 through 36, and show the same value in decimal beside it.

The answer

Digits run from 0–9 and then a–z. The sign, if you need one, is a leading minus. Prefixes such as 0x are not removed. The decimal form is shown next to the converted digits.

Result

Base 10

255

Decimal

255

What do you want to do next?

How this works

Each digit must belong to the source base. “f” is legal in base 16 and illegal in base 10. The value is read as an integer, so a decimal point is rejected.

The result uses lowercase letters for digits above 9. A leading minus is kept. Very long inputs are refused so a pasted blob is not treated as a number.

Practical steps

  1. 1

Enter the number without a 0x, 0b, or 0o prefix.

  2. 2

Set the base you have and the base you want.

  3. 3

Use the decimal line to check the magnitude.

Examples

  • ff from base 16 to base 10

    255.

Common mistakes

  • ×

Leaving a 0x prefix on a hex value. The x is not a hex digit.
