Annual salary to monthly pay
Turn a yearly salary into a monthly amount by dividing by 12, and see the weekly figure beside it.
Short answer
Monthly pay is the annual salary divided by 12. Weekly pay, if you spread the year across 52 weeks, is the salary divided by 52.
How this works
Months are not equal to 4 weeks. A monthly amount uses 12. A weekly amount uses 52. Mixing them (salary ÷ 12 ÷ 4) invents a short month and a lower weekly number.
This is still gross pay. It will not match a bank deposit if taxes, insurance, or a retirement contribution come out first.
Examples
$90,000 a year
Monthly is $7,500. Across 52 weeks it is about $1,730.77 a week.
Common mistakes
- Using 4 weeks as a month when you meant a calendar month.
Frequently asked questions
- Why doesn't monthly times 4 equal weekly?
- Because a year has about 4.33 weeks per month, not 4. Divide by 52 for a week and by 12 for a month.
